Working here was a great opportunity to work alongside some of the best professionals in the business. I learned a lot about the industry and very much enjoyed working on design challenges.

Account Management Intern

June - August 2018 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

Absolutely loved getting to know an agency I've had an eye on for a long time. It has been a great experience learning with some of the most organized, intuitive, and invested people on my team!

What I wish was different

This is unavoidable - but I wish that the learning curve wasn't so challenging. When adapting to any new account, it's a lot to learn, but I felt like I wish I had more time with my managers to learn and ask questions about what was going on.

Advice

People are really curious about your story and where you came from, but be sure to extend the curiousity and get to know the people you get to work with. It's so interesting to learn about other people's journey and why they ended up where they are. Sometimes you might be able to see a little bit of yourself in their stories and it can help you propel where you'd like your career to go.

Intern

June - August 2017 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I loved the team dynamic. At Ogilvy New York, you get assigned to work on an account, and you spend a lot of time with the people on your team. Typically you might work with one other intern, but you're very involved with the team's work. (Though it can vary from team to team.) I also liked how you're up and moving around throughout the day. You'll likely have meetings all around the 10-story building, so you're not just sitting at a desk for 8 hours. The hours are reasonable, depending on your team they can be anywhere from 9-5 to 8:30-7. (9-5 is much more common.) I liked the kind of work I was doing, as well as how open and friendly the team was. They were very flexible when I had to leave early or skip a day. There's also a big intern project that is super fun and a really great learning experience.

What I wish was different

Regarding the internship, I wish I had gotten more facetime with high-profile leaders at the company. I've spoken with friends who had ongoing conversations with partners at their firms, but we only got to chat to the CEO once. Otherwise, the work can sometimes get boring/repetitive. I feel like this is pretty normal at a desk job/internships. Other than that, the city of New York itself was a big adjustment for me. I wish somebody had told me that it would be a process, and that the big city life might not be for me.

Advice

Ask everyone you meet who seems even remotely cool to coffee. Ask tons of questions and don't be afraid to reach out for advice! I must have had a coffee chat every single day for 3 months straight. It was awesome.

Engagement Strategy Intern

June - August 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I liked engagement strategy and how it was revolved around problem solving. I liked hearing a client's problem, researching about the topic and coming up with an insight to then incorporate into an effective strategy. I also loved my intern project where I presented to a Fortune 100 client who pointed out my engagement strategy as one of the best he's ever seen from a college student!

What I wish was different

Absolutely nothing - it was an incredible experience. I wish it was longer!

Advice

Your internship is what you make of it. Reach out to people, ask a ton of questions and be open to any project or role. In order to leave a mark with a company, you really have to put yourself out there to stand out.
