Olga's Kitchen

Server

May - August 2023 • Clinton, MI

What I liked

Very fun and welcoming environment. Good place to learn how to serve.

What I wish was different

Management treated employees with disrespect. Customers were rude as well of course.

Advice

Good coworkers make the difference but management was awful.

What I liked

I liked working with a new team at the Washtenaw Olga’s; I previously worked at the Lansing Olga’s and the Canton Olga’s. I love meeting new people.

What I wish was different

I wish that my time there could’ve been longer so that I could have more money for school and see my coworkers for longer. I’m at school now, and I’m struggling with finding a new job and budgeting money.

Advice

I think that everyone should work in customer service at least once in their life. You learn such valuable skills like patience, timeliness, problem solving, being quick on your feet and working in a team. Most importantly, you learn empathy (for minimum wage employees especially).

Advice

Recognize that people will be mean and it doesn’t mean it’s necessarily because of you

Restaurant Server

January 2018 • Ann Arbor, MI

What I liked

Making tips every day is great. As a server, I get paid a higher wage than I would as a retail worker.

What I wish was different

It can be very challenging and stressful when there are too many customers and not enough workers. Servers have to make their soups and salads, which takes time away from customers.

Advice

Help others and ask for help. Never do anything that inconveniences a coworker or a customer.
