I enjoyed the ability to work and make a connection with a governmental agency, such as Orleans Parish School Board. I had the pleasure of applying my skills as a designer to create the initial project for my supervisor.
What I wish was different
To work under a designer. Although it was trilling to be the "designer" for once in that work setting but if I were to have my work seen and critiqued by a designer before I showed my then supervisor, I believe it would have helped make the final projects come out stronger.
Advice
Time Management is KEY! Being able to mange the work load of internship and the work load of my school work surprised many colleagues of mine. Everyone has a limit of how much work they can take on, know YOUR limit. I advise anyone who is a first-timed enrolled freshman if you are fortunate to land an internship, try to hold it off for the summer. For me I was a second semester freshman with 18 hour credit and I moved back and forth between my internship (across the river) and coming to school everyday. Fortunately I finished my internship and ending the semester academically strong. But it may be a different story for everyone else. Have a balance, find what works for you, and apply with all you got!
