I loved the diverse projects I got to work on. I felt like I got to apply many analysis skills that I had acquired in my studies at South Dakota State University. The people were great to work with and very helpful when I ran into challenging problems.
What I wish was different
I wish I was able to spend more time in this position. It takes a long time to complete the safety training and plant orientation. It also takes a lot of time to become familiar with the operation of the plant. I felt like I was finally getting in the groove at the Big Stone Plant when summer was winding down and I had to return to school.
Advice
I would suggest asking questions early and often. The easiest way to gain an understanding is to ask a plant engineer who has been around for several years.
