Outside the Lens

Social Media Intern

February 2020 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

The onboarding process was so organized and helpful for me, someone joining an established team. The work is in the same field that I am pursing with my major, Film and Media. The team is also very helpful and considerate with your schedule and allowing you to network your self. Lastly, i admire how this organization makes you feel like apart of a genuine family.

What I wish was different

"If I had one wish!" It would be to have a digital pamphlet laying out all that Outside the Lens to have offer and has offer! This would turn the gears in my head when contemplating if I would like to continue my time with the organization,

Advice

If I had to give ANY advice... it would be to don't be afraid to expand your horizon, branch out of your comfort zone and go experience new things & opportunities. OTL allowed me to see so much more out this world and in myself all in the stand of 6 months! Networking, Government Internships, Youth Educating, etc... Outside the Lens = The World Is Your Oyster

Camp Counselor

June - July 2018 • San Diego, CA

What I liked

I loved the instructors I assisted and their passion and gift for teaching photography and videography. Also loved the volunteer coordinators for being so helpful throughout the entire period of time I volunteered.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more time to work more camps instead of working other jobs to support myself since it was unpaid.

Advice

Volunteering with OTL was an opportunity to gain some experience that would make me a better artist/photographer and I encourage creatives to take opportunities even if they aren't unpaid (if they are able!) because they broaden skillsets.
