I liked getting to meet lots of new people that I otherwise wouldn't have met and getting to draw out plans for projects for each client we served. It was fun to lead campers in helping others in communities around the state of Arkansas.
What I wish was different
I wish more time was spent in our construction training. I am fairly proficient with tools and construction but some aspects were hard to deal with when I ran into issues on the job site and having the training go a little more in depth would have been beneficial.
Advice
Put yourself in new situations with people you wouldn't typically be around. Working in impoverished neighborhoods allowed me to understand what needs our own neighbors face here in our own state and that those needs aren't being met. Stepping out of my comfort zone not only allowed me to help them in their projects, but helped me to understand the privilege in my own life.
