Panera Bread

Shift Manager

September 2017 • Bainbridge, OH

What I liked

I love my co workers, part of the reason the commute is worth it to me, I think it’s so important to like who you work with, as well as work with people who actually care about their job.

What I wish was different

Advice

It’s nice to have a job all year round and up the hours during the summer if you can swing it. If not keep a good repor with the people so you can return if you’re ever interested

I liked my coworkers, and the fast-paced experience. I liked being done with my shift at 1 or 2 pm. I enjoyed the simplicity of the job.

What I wish was different

I wish I got to try more positions in the job. I wish I didn't have to wake up quite so early to get to work on time.

Associate

August 2017 • Wichita, KS

What I liked

I love the people that I work with. It's a very team emphasized environment.

What I wish was different

I wish that I could've worked more with the night crew, we were a tight group. However, I thoroughly enjoyed the morning crew as well.

Advice

It's far easier to work as a team to accomplish a goal then to try and figure it out all by yourself. There has to be some sort of foundation of trust and reliance.

Trainer

May 2016 • Janesville, WI

What I liked

I was able to work on my communication skills every single day. I was able to help train new employees in my specialty area which would be the drive through. I was able to work with some of my best friends over the summer and still today. I was also able to make pretty decent money each pay check as well.

What I wish was different

I wouldn't have changed a thing. It's a really nice part-time job here at Panera.

Advice

I would say be more open to taking other people's shifts or staying later/longer if someone called in. I would be way too quick to say no when I could have been there.

What I liked

I made a lot of friendships while working and gaining work experience.

What I wish was different

I wish I found another job that related more to my major of nursing.

Advice

I would advice someone to be patient but also know your limit, don't take on more than you can handle since that will lead to stress and negativity.

What I liked

What I wish was different

I wish that the particular establishment I was working at had been better at communication and mentorship, as I feel as though those were areas that were lacking.

Advice

Appreciate fast food workers and be patient with us - you'll quickly learn that we have a lot to juggle, and you'll need to be able to work efficiently in a fast pace environment to keep up.

Associate Trainer

July 2016 - August 2018 • Parkersburg, WV

What I liked

Panera is a very open-ended job. There is a certain level of expectation when you start but it’s easy to move up in the ranks. Slowly, you’ll get trained on everything in the cafe and become a trainer and then you’ll be able to move up the ladder.

What I wish was different

I wish I had gotten a raise once I hit my first year of working there. In my two years of working for Panera, I was still working minimum wage when I left for school.

Advice

It’s a great first job, and if you work hard enough- it’s a great job for life.

Delivery Team Member

June - September 2018 • South Euclid, OH

What I liked

What I wish was different

Advice

Stay away. Completely dysfunctional work environment, in which there was absolutely no accountability on the part of the general manager and higher management. I injured myself on the job and had to pretend I didn't to avoid letting deliveries arrive late. One of my coworkers worked up to 50 hour weeks with no overtime pay.

What I liked

What I wish was different

I wish the pay was better. Working in food services requires people to work long hours that consume all of your free time for an unlivable wage.
