Cashier/Barista

April 2019 • Farmington, MI

What I liked

I enjoyed the experience of talking to customers and the fast pace environment. Being a shy individual, the position helped me become more confident interacting with people.

What I wish was different

The pay is hourly and adjusted because the customers are allowed to tip. The tips are spilt between all the employees so they don’t add much to the pay.

Advice

This is a good starting job if you are a high school or college student and want spending money.

What I wish was different

Delivery Driver

May - August 2019 • Shiloh, IL

What I liked

I liked learning customer service as this was my first job and always being on the go. I learned how to handle situations where I have to put the customer first. I also learned how to work with people who I do not completely get along with. This helped me prepare for my future very well.

What I wish was different

The management at that specific restaurant was extremely unproductive and even unprofessional. I did not like how many rules were overlooked.

Advice

I think attitude is the most important part of any job. On the days I was surrounded by co-workers who were very negative, I found my days not being as productive or as happy and vice versa. I tried to always remain the one with the best attitude and by the time I left to go back to school I learned people noticed that and that my radiating positivity reflected on others.

What I liked

Quick way to get high volume of hours. Some nice co-workers

What I wish was different

All the co-workers to be nice and better at handling stress.

Advice

Easy to get hours but has streaks of fast paced environment. Good for part-time students. Have to bargain for less hours if full-time student.

Delivery person

April 2019 • Leesburg, VA

What I liked

I really liked all of the employees there, as well as the management. I liked the freedom of being a delivery person, so I didn't have to be in the restaurant for an entire shift, which could get old. For someone like me who can get bored fast, this was a good experience!

What I wish was different

I wish some of their computer systems had been different (for instance, they used an app/software program to determine if I was in-store or out-of-store, and my rate of pay would be different based on that, and it was always malfunctioning, leading to me losing some money). Sometimes I wish other employees had worked harder there, but I guess that comes along with the opportunity with a part-time job.

Advice

I would say be respectful to all of your employees, and they will help you out with tips and tricks. Everyone has each other's back!

What I liked

I've worked for Panera for a few years now. It's an enjoyable work environment, and I keep coming back.

What I wish was different

I wish I had gotten an internship other than just a summer job.

Advice
