Partners In Health

COVID-19 Case Investigator

April - October 2020 • Boston, MA

What I liked

It was great to be a part of the initiative to control and mitigate the spread of COVID-19. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience that I will value for the rest of my life. It brought about many challenges and unknowns as the program was constantly being improved upon, but it allowed me to develop upon my problem solving skills and adaptability.

What I wish was different

Since it was a remote position, it was definitely difficult not particularly knowing anyone and not having a strong company culture. I did "meet" some wonderful people along the way and hope to be able to meet them all in person one day once the pandemic is over.

Advice

Take risks and go with the flow. I was upset when my summer internship plans got cancelled, but when the contact tracing initiative presented itself, I jumped at the opportunity and it was a very quick turn around. Despite any uncertainty, everything always works out the way it is supposed to.

What I liked

A great organization with even more amazing people. I was fully integrated into the work at Partners in Health and was given real tasks and real responsibility. It offered an incredibly supportive environment for me to learn and grow.

Advice

At the moment, these are more project based internships. You must be a self-starter and be willing to take initiative, but everyone is always more than willing to help you if you ask for it.

Health Policy Intern

June - August 2017 • Monrovia, Montserrado County

What I liked

I liked the close mentorship provided by my boss and the ability to view many aspects of PIH's work in Liberia during my time there.

What I wish was different

It was a bit challenging being away from home for the extended period of time, but the exposure to a wide variety of health policy issues was amazing!

Advice

Look for opportunities to do side interest projects. If you can do more work than is expected of you, it will improve your experience.
