Partnership for a Secure America

Research and Communications Intern

May - August 2019 • Washington, DC

What I liked

The people I worked with were definitely one of the best parts of this internship. Everyone was really welcoming and helpful and clearly wanted to see me succeed. They made sure I was doing work that interested me and were very willing to help me further my career aspirations and expand my network. Additionally, I was able to see how Congress runs on a day to day basis, and I made many connections with congressional staff. Lastly, I was able to learn a lot about the different topics we held briefings on from some of the most prestigious and important scholars in their fields.

What I wish was different

I wish I was able to do more foreign policy research. As this organization does not publish many articles or papers, there wasn't much research involved in the position.

Advice

Be ready to take on anything the office needs to get done. Make sure you're ready to be a versatile intern and a team player. If this doesn't sound like you, you should probably take another position.
