Paylocity

Operations Research Associate

June - August 2023 • Meridian, ID

What I liked

I was able to work on high impact projects that had real implications for the workplace and build my confidence in the workplace.

What I wish was different

I wish that I knew that I was not being judged via the quality of my work, but rather on some small pieces of my personality in a specific field.

Advice

I would recommend that you work hard, but focus throughout the processes to make sure that leadership is being shown, and even if it is, make it painfully obvious to your boss as that is what offers are made off of not work quality.

Operations Leadership Associate Intern

May - August 2023 • Meridian, ID

What I liked

I loved the culture, the importance they placed on our roles, the receptiveness to new ideas, the people I got to network with, the exposure to executive leadership, the accessibility, and so much more!!

What I wish was different

I wish that I would have been able to learn more about the product and the organization structure before coming into the role.

Advice

You will get out of it what you put into it!

Software Engineer Intern

May - August 2021 • Meridian, ID

What I liked

Great atmosphere; was remote, and the company is very adept at working remotely. Whole team (PO, PM, senior devs, and other interns) were awesome to work with. They also have a well-established internship program that made it really easy to do onboarding, get started, feel comfortable, etc. I felt respected and valued as a member of the team, and learned a lot.

What I wish was different

It went by fast! Also, I think my experience was extra good because I had other interns on my team that I could work and learn with.

Advice

Communication is super important! Don't be afraid to speak your mind and ask questions; they talk a lot about everyone "being apart of the team," and they actually mean it here.

Account Manager

July - November 2019 • Schaumburg, IL

What I liked

I absolutely loved the work culture and community. The building was absolutely beautiful and had so many unique features I have never saw before at a company. Each floor has something different, but our floor specifically had a built-in mini golf course. There are a lot of ways they offer employees to destress. Also, for 21+ employees, they had a beer cart coming around when certain times of the year pick up and the work load increases which can increase stress levels as well. They had multiple game nights with food and drinks and high-end gaming systems where we could all get to know each other and have fun!

What I wish was different

I wish the work wasn't so stressful. They do tell you when you apply what the job will be like, but you don't find out if it's a good fit until you take on the load. The 6-week training courses are intense and there is a job-dependent test after, but it still gives you nowhere near enough information to do your job. It is a lot of on-the-stop answer findings and research. The environment is a call-center type.

Advice

I would advise those who are interested in applying to be very comfortable with constant stress and not know the answers. If you like the call center environment then I would suggest applying. You are taking phone calls and incoming emails your entire shift with questions you will not know the answer to and have limited resources to figure it out. If you like challenges and thinking on the spot, then this is the right job for you! It gets better with time/experience in the role but those first few months (about 8) will test your limits.
