PBS

Master Control

October 2015 • Providence, RI

What I liked

I enjoy seeing PBS content and working in a studio environment.

What I wish was different

I don't mish anything had been different.

Advice

If you'd like to get into the television industry, start with an internship where you're able to see the work from the inside. Gain insight from employees and if you're able to, create relationships with those who can offer mentorship.

Development Services Intern

June - August 2019 • Crystal City, VA

What I liked

I was living across America on my own in a big city and using public transit to get to work. All three things I had yet to do in my life and I think I learned some very useful life skills. Getting able to network and attend a conference was an experience that will be invaluable on my resume when I am graduated and applying for jobs. I met a ton of people high up in the company and made in credible connections that I will have throughout my career and life.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had more support for housing. I had to pay for all of the housing and am now in a lot of debt that I am struggling to pay off. In the long run, this will be very important for me, right now, I am struggling to eat.

Advice

Think about the long term pay off. You are young, and this is the time to make scary decisions and leap when you see opportunities. Struggle now so you can succeed later.

What I liked

Friendly atmosphere and a lot of opportunities to meet people in different departments.

What I wish was different

I don’t really like development work but I have a lot of experience in it. Some of the tasks were very menial and seemed pointless.

Advice

PBS is an awesome work place, and you have a lot of networking opportunities. Take them!
