PCC Structurals

Process Engineering co-op

June 2018 • Groton, CT

What I liked

There were a lot of issues within the plant that needed to be addressed--which may not sound too great; but as a process engineer, it provided a lot of opportunity for projects.

What I wish was different

None of the projects really suited my major--and it seemed as though once these projects passed my stage of completion, they never got pushed forward anymore. I worked on many individual projects but rarely got to see the pay-off past the design stage, which was very disheartening. There was always a battle between operations and engineering and a constant blame on the engineering team, who were working longer hours, working on multiple difficult projects, and not being met with gratitude or approval no matter how much work they put into something.

Advice

I wouldn't work at this location of PCC Structurals unless you are interested in Operations or management. Having seen the way people are treated here--there is not enough pay-off for the drama, not enough engineering projects for the co-ops, and not enough communication even though the plant very small.
