What I liked

The culture at PFG is great, everyone is so helpful and they really do put people first. The internship program was extremely well organized and provided the interns many opportunities for learning from guest speakers, to meeting with executives, and going on relevant 'field trips' when it comes to internship job title. Amazing experience overall and would highly recommend.

What I wish was different

Before beginning my internship at PFG, I wish I had a bit more information about what to expect when beginning. Though I had an amazing experience here this summer, I just came into it without knowing anything prior to the orientation.

Advice

Take initiative! If you're an intern you should be curious, always be asking questions, and never just be sitting and waiting to be handed your next task.

Sales Intern

May - August 2022 • Montgomery, IL

What I liked

PFG created a well put together program that allowed us interns to connect with one another, while giving us the opportunity to meet executives throughout the PFG companies. I tell everyone that my experience was different, not only did I work closely with the sales department but I got the opportunity to sit with majority of the departments that they offer and experience the whole cycle of getting an prospect to the cases to the product arriving at the customers doorstep.

What I wish was different

The only things I had wish was different was a brief description of what we would be doing in our roles at the OpCo. Along with, introducing the interns to one another before going to Richmond just to create a sense of comfortability.

Advice

Go into the internship with an open mind and say yes to everything! You may feel out of your comfort zone but that is the best way to learn in an industry like theirs. As well as, ask questions because it is the only way to understand a large company and why they do things the way they do.

Operations Intern

May - August 2022 • Fontana, CA

What I liked

I loved meeting my fellow PFG interns and getting to know them. During the orientation event, we were all able to connect and network with each other while doing fun events like volunteering or going on a food tour in Downtown Richmond. I also enjoyed connecting with my co-workers at my OpCo location who were all so easy to talk too and inclusive. I also love seeing the work that I put into everyday affect people in the real world!

What I wish was different

I wish that the program had more concrete structure concerning the interns role, duties, and responsibilities throughout the duration of the 11 week program.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share about this experience is that you should make the most of it. The company fosters a culture of inclusivity and open perspective. They allow you to be flexible and independent with your work. This means you should constantly be making a proactive effort to improve!

The PFG Sales Internship was an incredible opportunity and experience.
