What I liked

In my last job, I was a member of a five-person team, and we worked together on various large-scale projects where each of us was responsible for one part of the project. I enjoyed the teamwork aspect of the job, and I liked seeing how all the pieces of our projects came together in the end. The teamwork aspect of that job — and this job — greatly appeals to me, because I typically learn a lot about what I'm capable of when working in synch with others.

What I wish was different

One aspect I would change about my last job is the museum's commitment to the Common Core curriculum. While I understand Common Core can be very valuable for many teachers and students, I find that I prefer to teach lessons that I design and plan myself. On one occasion, I had an exciting idea for a science experiment but was unable to produce it due to time constraints from prioritizing Common Core lessons. If I were able to take charge of more lessons throughout the year rather than focusing on Common Core, I think I would be much more excited about teaching my classes. This is one reason I'm so interested in the science teacher opening at your school, as I think your education model suits my teaching style perfectly.

Advice

I would one hundred percent recommend other professionals that are passionate about science and teaching to aspire to positions such as this one; a position where your working environment is healthy and positive, where everyone cares about how you as an employee are doing, and a place where your leader is open to accept suggestions and comments for improvement.
