Personal Employer - Babysitters

Babysitter

July 2020 • Haymarket, VA

What I liked

The family I worked for was extremely nice and flexible with the hours I worked. This allowed me to take time off for school when I needed (ex: finals) and make it up when it worked best for me. The child was very sweet and well behaved, and I created great connections with other neighborhood families that lead to more job opportunities.

What I wish was different

Due to the circumstances of the family, they were always home when I was working. This created some awkwardness at times but they were very easy to work with, and I got used to this very quickly.

Advice

Take the time to engage with the child and interact with them as much as possible. I found I enjoyed the job much more when I was interacting and playing with the child as opposed to engaging in passive activities such as watching television. The child will enjoy themselves more this way as well, and they will be ecstatic to have a new playmate.

What I liked

I loved the chance to work somewhere with great flexibility and great employers. Handshake helped so much by showing me a wide variety of jobs I could potentially have for the summer.

What I wish was different

My one regret is that I didn't find a job that would grow my professional experience.

Advice

I would say to start looking early. I think I started applying for jobs in March which was helpful for planning out my summer and finances.
