Mobile App Analytics Intern

May - August 2019 • Phoenix, AZ

What I liked

I loved this internship experience. The project was awesome, moldable to fit what I wanted to learn more about. I loved the company and the value they see in their interns. They provided housing, travel stipend, and had various trainings for all the interns to learn about different departments and explore within business the different kinds of careers that are available. Also, cute dogs at every meeting and cubicle!

What I wish was different

The program was awesome. The only thing I would change is the set-up of one of the group projects I worked on for the company as well as my individual project. There were too many students involved and not enough of them had a general business background to fully grasp the prompt of the project and understand how to kick it into execution mode.

Advice

There are multiple ways to get to the career you ultimately want. Not a single person there told me they were working in a position they initially applied for, and they were happier because of it.

Petcare Specialist

August 2018 • Fort Wayne, IN

What I liked

Very friendly. Feels almost like a family rather than a job.

What I wish was different

Management wouldn’t change so often and they would hire people as managers who know more about animals.

Advice

You have way more power then you would expect, and it doesn’t have the same horror stories about animal care. Petcare Specialists take extremely good care of animals and we spend a lot of money on vet visits on animals that only cost twelve dollars.

Cashier

December 2017 • Greensboro, NC

What I liked

I liked being around animals all of the time and suggesting things for customers to buy for their animals. I also got to help people take care of their pets, whether it be dogs, cats, hamsters, etc.

What I wish was different

I wish I elected to work on the weekends because I could have gotten more hours.

Advice

Information Systems Analyst Intern

June - August 2018 • Phoenix, AZ

What I liked

There were about 30 of us interns this past summer at PetSmart and we all had a lot of fun and worked very hard. I had a great manager and was given an interesting project. I feel like PetSmart really listened to me during the interview process and thought about ways to make the internship meaningful. I am really grateful for the opportunity I had because I was offered a full time position which I accepted.

What I wish was different

I don't have any complaints but once I am there I will share my ideas and try to continue to make PetSmart internships fun especially for any IT interns I may meet.

Advice

My advice would be to trust in the process and try to have fun. I have a feeling that most managers would like to see how interns respond to ambiguity, since we don't have a lot of that in school. Things might not be as clear cut as in the classroom. Hard work always shows in the end, so just try and have a great project and have fun.

PetsHotel Assistant

June - August 2018 • Johns Creek, GA

What I liked

I liked the work environment and loved the ability to interact with animals and their owners.

What I wish was different

The shifts could be taxing-- the earliest shift began at 5 am and ended at 1 pm. There was also a big issue with me receiving payments on time. I had worked roughly 70 hours before getting my first paycheck.

Advice

It is important that you have a good attitude even during stressful times; much of the job depends on your ability to get along with and support your coworkers.

Package Design Intern

June - August 2018 • Phoenix, AZ

What I liked

The atmosphere was incredible, I loved working with people who were motivated to make a change in their pets lives. My team was passionately involved in the internship program and the projects that I was trusted with. They showed confidence in my work to senior directors. Working with their creative team was hugely beneficial to my education and my presentation skills.

What I wish was different

I wish that the internship could've been longer, it was bitter sweet leaving before my projects were finished. I would have loved to have walked a project through the whole process.

Advice

Take every opportunity to prove you excel and at your skills and utilize your mentors as much as possible. PetSmart's Internship program provides a very unique opportunity to work with exceptionally talented individuals one on one, don't take it for granted.

Supply Chain Management intern

May - July 2018 • Phoenix, AZ

What I liked

I pride myself in finding work that is meaningful and impactful, and that's just what I got to do here at PetSmart. Something I learned very early in my internship is to not shy away from new experiences. From SQL meetings with external departments to spontaneous PetSmart Zumba classes, my willingness to take advantage of the resources that PetSmart offers has enriched my intern experience and allowed me to continue to learn and love my life at PetSmart.

What I wish was different

I wish the program could have been 12 weeks instead of 10, I really enjoyed my time there.

Advice

PetSmart has wonderful resources and cross functional opportuniites, so I would really encourage interns to take advantage of all of the internal programs on the PetSmart campus and learn more about different departments while you are there!

Web Analyst Intern

June - August 2018 • Phoenix, AZ

What I liked

The culture at PetSmart was so amazing. Everyone is very friendly and are very willing to help you learn and succeed during your internship. One neat aspect of the internship is an individualized project you work on during the whole summer. My manager was very helpful and guided me along the way. Overall, this experience gives you hands on experience in whatever field you interested in.

What I wish was different

I was commuting from Tempe, so the drive was sometimes a little long with traffic. Otherwise, nothing!

Advice

Be willing to let yourself explore other things besides your internship project. The PetSmart Internship Program offers you a lot of opportunities to meet other people working at the office and work on different things here and there. Use those opportunities to get the most out of your time there!
