What I liked

I enjoyed that I was given the freedom to work on my own and travel across several different states. I enjoyed talking to numerous vets about Phibro products and also my future in veterinary medicine.

I wish I would've had a project of some sort and that there was better communication between my supervisor and the HR people who hired me.

Research and Development Intern

May 2018 • Corvallis, OR

What I liked

I enjoyed being able to work with my hands and actually put the knowledge I've gained over the past three years at OSU to my job. While I studying engineering, and this job has a strong molecular biology/biochemistry, I was given independence to troubleshoot problems and improve processes and tests we ran. So, while I wasn't doing direct engineering, it was great to see that the problem solving skills were being used every day.

What I wish was different

I've enjoyed every aspect of working here (so much that I continue to do so during the school year). Sometimes it gets frustrating when it takes days or weeks for a single process to work, but sometimes its necessary as research is about improving on the scientific knowledge you have.

Advice

Get comfortable working quick and working "small". Molecular biology research takes place in the small test tubes with microliters and nanograms. Being confident in your pipetting and mixing makes your processes run much smoother and efficiently.
