Phillips Edison & Company

Infrastructure and Operations IT Intern

May - August 2022 • Cincinnati, OH

What I liked

The people were the best part about the internship. Everyone was open to to meeting you, and always willing to help.

What I wish was different

I wish that I would have communicated what I wanted to get out of the internship better. If I would have been more clear, I could have made it even more of a learning experience.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions...no matter how little it is. Everyone here will always take the extra time to explain what is needed.

Leasing Intern

May - August 2022 • Cincinnati, OH

What I liked

I loved how much I was able to learn in just one short summer. I loved that I was doing meaningful work that contributed to the greater good of the company as opposed to being assigned "busy work". I absolutely loved the company culture and all the fun activities, events, happy hours, and treats that were implemented all throughout the summer. There was always something to look forward to and attending all of these events allowed me to grow my personal network and meet so many different people from all departments within the company. Finally, I absolutely loved the relationships I created with all the other interns. We were able to build true friendships and even met up outside of work to hang out! Overall, I had such an amazing experience here at PECO!

What I wish was different

Nothing, I had a very positive experience here!

Advice

Try your very best to meet as many people as you can! You never know where or what you may be interested in learning about and everyone at PECO is so awesome at what they do it makes it easy to thrive in multiple areas. Also try to be as open minded as possible and give yourself grace if you don't pick up on everything right away. Commercial real estate jargon can be difficult to understand at times but if you aren't afraid to ask questions you'll put yourself in a position to grow & learn a ton!

What I liked

The culture at PECO is very welcoming and energetic. The company values their employees making connections, and the intern program does an amazing job allowing interns across departments to work together. Many departments are flexible with working remote or in-person, as well as daily start/end times during the work day. PECO provides many opportunities to learn and be engaged, and they aim to maximize your time as an intern.

Property Accounting Co-op

April 2022 • Cincinnati, OH

What I liked

Really fun people and an extremely interactive culture across the company. PECO is really good at creating events that matter to the associates and engage them.

What I wish was different

Advice

Always ask questions, whether it be to your manager, co-worker, or a VP. As a Co-op, not only are questions welcome, but they are expected. Also, make sure to take advantage of being a Co-op and talk with as many people within the company as you can! Most associates are more than happy to tell you about their role and experiences at PECO, and it gives you a great idea of your fit.

Tax Co-Op

May - August 2021 • Cincinnati, OH

What I liked

The people and the company! They are growing, actually, became NASDAQ listed in my time with them, but they still have a medium-sized company feel. I worked on a small team of around 12 people and they knew I was there to learn so they had me working/rotating with everyone in order to diversify my experience. I was treated as an equal member and attended all staff meetings in our department and I even got invited to company events. Everyone was so patient, kind, and LOVED questions. This was such a great internship/co-op experience that I would happily go back to work for PECO in the future!

What I wish was different

I lived rather far from the office, but for a co-op/internship, I think being in-person is much easier and more valuable than a remote internship.

Advice

Do not be afraid to ask questions. Make a list as you are working through a project that you can present to your supervisor or team member all at once. If you provide them with your questions prior to meeting with them, it can give them a chance to review and respond to you in a more well-thought-out way. Ask what you can do to improve and take that constructive criticism.
