Outdoor Adventure Guide

May - July 2019 • Cimarron, NM

What I liked

Getting to meet all sorts of people and teach them about the outdoors.

What I wish was different

Schedule was a little hectic at times.

Advice

You’ve gotta learn patience and to let the different crews overcome obstacles without you intervening.

What I liked

It was one of the best experiences of my life, I learned so many skills and got to meet so many new amazing people from around the country, some of whom are my best friends now.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been able to stay out there and work longer or that I would have been able to do a temporary assignment of Rayado Ranger and bring a crew into the back country for 21 days.

Advice

You don't live for the bad experiences, put those out of your mind after they happen, you do what you love for the great wonderful experiences and those are the ones that you will remember 20 years down the line. Don't let bad experiences drag you down, push through for the good that could come the next day.

Ranger

June - August 2019 • Cimarron, NM

What I liked

I was able to work with over 100 people as a backpacking guide and outdoor educator. I grew as a leader and had a great deal of responsibility. I hiked/backpacked over 300 miles and not only grew personally but was able to take from my experiences to benefit others.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been able to work there longer during the summer, to improve more and to gain more knowledge.

Advice

Hard work and personal motivation will enhance the experience not only for the participants, but also for your self. Take advantage of the hike-in days and push yourself mileage wise to see more of the land and to meet more people.

What I liked

I love working here, this was my second year. I love the friends you make working here, the impact you get to make on the Boy Scouts, and the lessons you get to learn.

What I wish was different

Nothing! It is heaven on earth here and I would not change a thing.

Advice

Bring lots of mole skin, you will get blisters!
