What I liked

I loved getting to show the love that Christ shows me to my campers through bible studies, worship, camp games, activities, and so much more fun things throughout the summer!

I wouldn’t have changed a thing. God worked in massive ways this summer and it is one that I will never forget.

Sound Technician

May - August 2019 • Columbus, TX

What I liked

I loved working with the people and making a difference in the lives of the campers, even if it was small

What I wish was different

Some events were not entirely fun for the campers. Most were an absolute blast, but some events are just hard to enjoy

Advice

If you're going to apply here, be ready for a long, rough ride. But the ride is one of the best experiences you'll ever have!

Youth Counselor

June - August 2019 • Tyler, TX

What I liked

Strong community among the other staff encouraging and supporting me through the many challenges of the job; being mobilized to courageously spread the Good News of Jesus to the campers; building relationships with campers, having fun and learning with them; being forced to grow holistically as a person to meet the constant demands of the job.

What I wish was different

I wish they had a better salad bar. That's pretty much it.

Advice

If you want to be pushed to grow in your relationship with/faith in Jesus, then this job is for you. Just know that it will really challenge you, but there are rewards waiting on the other side of those challenges. And the only way you get through those challenges is by leaning on the strength of Jesus, not your own.

Summer camp counselor

June - August 2019 • Tyler, TX

What I liked

I loved getting to interact with the campers and the other counselors and build relationships with them. I also loved getting to grow in my relationship with the Lord as well as teaching others about the Lord and what he was doing in my life

What I wish was different

I wish that we had a little bit more time off on the weekends, we only have about 22 hours off and 8-10 of them are spent sleeping

Advice

I would say to be open to learning and growing during this experience. It will definitely stretch you and push you in ways you have never experienced but it cultivates so much growth if you go into it with a positive attitude.

What I liked

I love pine cove’s mission. They’re an incredibly employer and working for them has changed my view on the type of careers I’ll look at.

What I wish was different

This is a job that will teach you a lot of grit. It’s hard at times, but learning to push through discomfort has helped me in many professional areas.

Camp Counselor

May - August 2018 • Columbus, TX

What I liked

I loved the constant high-energy, amazing staff, and all the meaningful ways I was able to serve in. Pine Cove really does it right in terms of summer camps, and I got to see the motto of "Christ centered, others focused, seriously fun" fulfilled in so many ways, and the growth I experienced personally was second to none.

What I wish was different

About the only thing I wish would have been different was the extensive training we go through. Because I was a lifeguard, I had a full two weeks of training. The team-bonding was great, but it was grueling. Always worth it though.

Advice

If you have the opportunity to give part or all of your summer to an amazing ministry like this, don't think twice about it and just do it.

Camp Counselor and Lifeguard

May - August 2018 • Columbus, TX

What I liked

Working at camp honestly changed my life-everything we ever did was focused on the Gospel, sharing the Gospel with our campers, and amplifying the glory of God. It challenged me to live in an others-focused and Christ-centered way. I also was able to develop the best community I have ever had with the people I was working with all summer.

What I wish was different

It was definitely challenging, but there is really nothing I would change! The leadership is incredible because you know everything they are doing is driven by Scripture, and they truly love their staff so well and work every day to find new ways to serve you.

Advice

If you are not all in on your relationship with the Lord or letting the Lord work through you, this probably isn't for you. This job can be exhausting and draining because you literally only get 24 hours off a week, and so you genuinely cannot make it if your energy is not being sustained by the Lord.
