Working with the animals, and working with the other interns
What I wish was different
I wish the management had been different.
Advice
Do not intern here, not unless the zoo changes hands management wise. The owners don't know what they are doing, and the brunt of the work falls onto the interns. Rather than teaching interns skills and learning about the job and animals, they are set to work on tasks that the zookeepers or maintenance don't want to do. The animals are great, and most of the employees, but it definitely isn't worth it.

Animal Care Intern
May - August 2019 • Rising Sun, MD
What I liked
I liked the amount of animals that I was able to work with and care for. I also liked that I was able to still have a job while completing the internship.
What I wish was different
I wish that they had let Pre-Vet interns to observe the veterinarian that would come to the zoo, which ended up being several times throughout the summer.
Advice
Make sure you make an effort to learn more about the animals to show that you are truly interested in what you are doing, even when you are doing non-animal related tasks like cleaning.
