I enjoyed the fact that I learned from everyone around me, not just my supervisor. I learned all aspects of the job. I did things from filing to actually processing people through the system and following up.
What I wish was different
I wished I could have worked with clients more. I was an intern but wanted to jump in and take over a caseload - :) I wish that my supervisor had more time to work with me one-on-one, but the pace of the job was such that she didn't have as much time as was needed.
Advice
Do not give up on working for a homeless shelter. This was not my first choice for an internship, and I was nervous about it in the beginning. I ended up loving this placement and would like to work for them for a while before moving on to something else.
