Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory

Intern

June - August 2020 • Princeton, NJ

What I liked

Opportunity to pursue novel research with PPPL scientists. The internship was performed remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and while the organizers were quite literally making it up as they went, the structure of the program held and I feel I had a very enriching experience.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been able to attend the internship in person, as working remotely is not something I have attempted before and in the circumstances of the pandemic, it presented unexpected personal challenges.

Do not be afraid to ask questions!

Research Intern

June - August 2019 • Princeton, NJ

What I liked

I enjoyed the research being done and the opportunities for networking at the lab. Researchers were also very supportive and eager to help interns with their work.

What I wish was different

I wish that some projects may have been more defined. This is a good and bad thing. It forced me to be creative, but my research started slow.

Advice

I would say if something isn't working at first, don't panic.

Cryogenic Superconductor Research Intern

May - September 2018 • Princeton, NJ

What I liked

Got to work in a government supported laboratory alongside graduate students and Princeton professors. It was a unique academic experience that challenged my ability to work with several departments and individuals at the same time.

What I wish was different

The nature of the national research laboratory is a bit antiquated - there's a lot of processes that are slowed down due to bureaucracy.

Advice

Form your ideas of what you're going to research well in advance.

The culture and the people
