The Maryland Community Pathways Waiver offers the option of self-directed services. This is service delivery for individuals with developmental disabilities who wish to exercise more choice, control, and authority over their supports. Self-direction gives waiver participants greater control over the services they receive, how they receive them, and who provides them.
Through the Maryland Community Pathways Waiver the disabled individual retains control of their budget which is a fixed dollar amount for the purchase of services and supports available under the waiver. The disabled individual is the employer of record with their own federal tax identification number and is responsible for selecting and arranging the services and supports in their individual plan. The disabled individual is responsible for hiring, training, and firing employees.
