Undergraduate Researcher (Physics)

May - August 2018 • West Lafayette, IN

What I liked

I was very grateful for the opportunity to participate in research at a large reputable institution like Purdue. I had access to many knowledgeable professors, post docs, and other undergraduates, in addition to the wide variety of scientific resources on campus, that helped me gain valuable experience in a high energy physics lab and contribute to current physics research.

Biochemistry Research Scientist

May - August 2018 • West Lafayette, IN

What I liked

I really loved being able to see the things I used in class put towards practical, long term projects, outside of the research I do at Valpo. I also had an opportunity to see what graduate school was nice, and an amazing experience to network at a larger university. Lastly, I was able to be trained on techniques I had never encountered and instruments that we don't have access to here.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have worked more independently, I felt very shadowed. I had my own projects, but they were always small, one or two week projects connecting to a larger whole.

Advice

Definitely attempt to get an internship analogous to this if you're interested in graduate school. It gives a great feel, it looks good on a resume, and its a fun experience if you're genuinely interested in the field.

Entomolgy Researcher

June - July 2018 • West Lafayette, IN

What I liked

I enjoyed the hands on experience of working in a completely new environment. Everything I did was a learning experience because i had no prior experience or knowledge on Entomology work.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more time conducting the research I was doing. It was all done in a span of two months. I do not think that was enough time to do research and create an oral and poster presentation.

Advice

I would recommend people to apply to this opportunity because I learned a lot, and I now have a door opened for graduate school at Purdue University.
