I loved the flexibility of the internship. They were really flexible with hours and what I wanted to take away from the internship.

Community Engagement Intern
June - August 2018 • Evanston, IL
What I liked
I loved this internship! It gave me amazing experience in Community Engagement, and I found the work environment to be very productive. Everyone in the Rainbows for All Children office was very supportive, encouraging, and helpful with all the work I had to do. I felt like I gained very helpful experience and skills in the Community Engagement field, especially in a Non-profit, which is where I hope to work in the future.
What I wish was different
It would have been great to be paid, but I loved doing the work anyway. I also was able to determine my own schedule, so I allowed myself time to also work a paying job during the week. The office is open 9-5 on Mondays through Fridays, but I worked 10-4 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Some other interns only worked from 9-12. You are able to determine your own schedule with Laura, the supervisor for the internship, which is so helpful!
Advice
Don't be scared to take on multiple projects. While the work was a bit repetitive, I would sometimes be working on three different projects at once, so it helped to be able to switch between them when I wanted to challenge myself more. Be organized, and make sure you have some experience with Excel or are willing to learn!
