Red Hen Press

Editorial Intern

May - August 2021 • Pasadena, CA

What I liked

My supervisor was great and always very organized and responsive.

What I wish was different

I wish my working hours had been different. Because of the time difference, I worked 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. It would've been nice if I would've been able to work earlier in the day.

Advice

I would recommend getting more than one internship in the same field. So if you get this internship and you enjoy it, go look for other publishing industry internships. There will be jobs in the industry when you graduate, and the more experience you have in a specific field, the better chance you have.

Audiobook Coordinator

April - August 2018 • Pasadena, CA

What I liked

I liked that I had a lot of wiggle room as to what my internship entailed. It was almost investigative as I was the one of only two other people who had worked on the project since its initial development.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been given a little bit more detail about the company before being thrown in to a a new developing project.

Advice

You can never ask too many questions. You are there to learn about your environment and the subject, use the professional tools directly in front of you!

Copy Editor

June - August 2018 • Pasadena, CA

What I liked

Everyone was nice, and it's not difficult to make talk with your fellow interns and higher-ups.

What I wish was different

Though it's understandable that because it was a non-profit, a little bit of pay would've been nice.

Advice

You should have an adequate understanding of English—though the more you know, the better—and have a way to get to and back as the publishing house is located in Pasadena.
