Red Ventures

Business Operations Analyst Intern

June - August 2022 • Charlotte, NC

What I liked

The company culture at Red Ventures is at the forefront of the internship experience, and there is a lot of thought put into the various intern-specific activities. RV places an emphasis on self-care and work-life integration, which I found to be a great fit for myself. Furthermore, in my role I was actually given substantive projects that sought to resolve problems that our team faced on the day to day; I truly felt like I was able to make an impact in my role, not just completing busy work. Lastly, there are both formal and informal avenues of mentorship and support available to interns, such that there's always someone to reach out to for questions or concern; I never felt like I was stuck on my own.

What I wish was different

I honestly could not have wished for a better experience in this role!

Advice

Keep you mind open to opportunities that may not initially seem like exactly what you want to do for work. Red Ventures has so many development opportunities available to interns and entry level hires. Also, making sure to go out of your way to meet with people 1 on 1 and formulate authentic, personal connections can go a long way here.

Frontend Software Engineer

June - August 2019 • Charlotte, NC

What I liked

I enjoyed the pace of the company and their emphasis on always having their employees learning. They challenged everyone to learn several computer languages over the summer, work on personal projects, and were a very friendly and well cultured company.

What I wish was different

I wish I hadn’t had to work remote, but Covid-19 made a lot of things odd this year. The way remote work was being done was alright, but there were many meetings that would take place online that could have been accomplished through a 3-5 sentence email.

Advice

They value who you are as a person over how you work and how well you do your job. This is not to say they don’t care about how well you do your job, but if you don’t fit into the culture you’ll have a hard time enjoying the day-to-day schedule and it will be more difficult to get a return offer.

Technology

June - July 2019 • Fort Mill, SC

What I liked

Environment was great! Everyone was willing to help out for you to learn. Also great partly covered meals and options like the gyms and tennis courts.

What I wish was different

The first week of training involved professional development. I wish people who were already familiar with other professional environments did not have to go through this module as well.

Advice

Network faster. There are so many people to learn from and meet.

Digital operations intern

June - August 2019 • Charlotte, NC

What I liked

Structure and generalised skill development in the first half, which paved the way for an more innovative solutions-based project in the second half. Great mentorship and feedback program.

What I wish was different

Because the role was fairly niche, and something it took awhile to get up to speed on, did not necessarily get to experience the other roles that the company performs.

Advice

Network, network, network!

Writer Intern

June - August 2019 • Charlotte, NC

What I liked

I was given creative freedom and autonomy to pitch and write news articles. I also felt incredibly supported by my manager and team. The company was amazing and I really enjoyed getting to go to the office every day.

What I wish was different

I didn't enjoy my commute from Charlotte to Fort Mill. I also started later than other interns, so I missed the orientation/bonding activities they all shared.

Advice

Get to know your coworkers! I scheduled chats with my team members and really enjoyed learning more about their life and work, and how I could best support them.

Tech Intern

May - July 2018 • Fort Mill, SC

What I liked

The team you are assigned to are really helpful in trying to guide you to do the right thing. They also expose you to many resources such as other people, whom you can easily reach out to.

What I wish was different

I think that during my experience, my team could have checked up on what I was learning more closely.

Advice

I would recommend that you come in with a mentality to learn more than expected because you really do learn a lot of information in a short span of time. Also to not be afraid to network out to other employees
