Rhode Island Commission for Human Rights

Investigative Intern

June - August 2023 • Providence, RI

What I liked

I liked the extent to which my colleagues trusted me to do my work. There was certainly an extensive orientation program, but once I was finished with and had completed a few assignments, I was trusted to complete them on my own and to do some substantial investigative work. I was also assigned some side projects, such as community outreach work and working on questions for a subpoena hearing.

What I wish was different

I can't think of anything I would want different.

Advice

Like all internships, but more so for this one, the experience is what you make of it. If you can demonstrate to the people at the Commission that you are serious about what you're doing, and that you're any good at it, you will have many more chances to learn the law and the inner workings of discrimination investigation.
