The programs at RRSI are an extremely vital service and I am glad that I am able to support this service in existing. The staff are very caring and hardworking people, and have very diverse backgrounds and experiences.
What I wish was different
The programs at RRSI are very disorganized, due mostly it seems to being short staffed and underfunded. I wish that the agency had more people and resources available to it, so that they could more efficiently and effectively provide services.
Advice
Not for the faint of heart. This kind of work and particularly with this population (adults with IDD) is very rewarding, but it is also exhausting, and at times disheartening. It is probably best to have a counselor, therapist, or advisor who you can talk with to process, even beyond what’s automatically included as a student intern.
