What I liked

I loved interacting with people from all over the world when they came here for EAA. Staying on campus over the summer connects me to the environment more as well as all the groups/organizations that came to visit on campus

What I wish was different

I wish I had done this from the first summer that I was here on campus because I have learned so much as well as experienced new things. I don't think much needs to be changed if any at all.

Advice

This experience has helped me gain more organization skills as well as maintain a healthy relationship with the people around me and learn to understand the ins and outs of Ripon College

Educational Researcher

What I liked

I enjoyed being my own boss in the sense that I was deciding to a certain extent what to focus on. I liked being able to create my own product that is beneficial to others.

What I wish was different

I wish that I would have known what the final product I was striving for would look like.

Advice

This was research through SOAR and I would suggest having a partner to make the experience more enjoyable on a daily basis.

Marketing Consultant - Creative Enterprise Center

What I liked

Getting to work closely with Professor Sensenbrenner and Professor Hamami as well as a variety of local professionals in Fon Du Lac County. Being a part of the Creative Enterprise Center has helped me to become more involved with the business department and more confident with my own professional skills. Something that is very nice about this campus job opportunity is that you get to pick your own time to complete your job responsibilities making it extremely flexible.

What I wish was different

Nothing! As someone who has held multiple campus jobs the Creative Enterprise Center, in particular, is a really unique opportunity to help prepare students for professional work post-graduation.

Advice

Be prepared to stay organized with your individual tasks and responsibilities week to week, since you're able to make your own schedule it's important to stay on top of things!

Computer Science Intern

What I liked

I love getting the chance to create a game with professor Issac Sung and professor Erin Munro-Krull. The remote job was a perfect way to fill down time in quarantine and it was super nice to have the extra money from doing something that I love.

What I wish was different

I wish that we could have worked on the game for longer or continued into the school year.

Advice

Make sure to be open to new experiences! Even if you're hesitant about something, you may end up loving it!

Tutor

What I liked

When COVID-19 began, I was contacted to become a virtual tutor for families in need during the pandemic. Some students did it for hour completion but I did it to volunteer my time and ensure that students and the families were provided with the opportunities and resources that they needed to keep learning effectively during the pandemic and virtual learning transition. What I liked was all the connections I made with not only the children I worked with but their families. I am glad I was contacted to be a resource for these families in a time of change and uncertainty.

What I wish was different

I would not change anything about this experience. I was so thankful to have participated and learned from this experience. If anything, I wish I could have kept working with my students.

Advice

One piece of advice is to make sure we are all there for one another. Now more than ever, we need to support each other. Even small efforts can help a long way and we cannot forget to be there and lend a helping hand.
