What I liked

I loved working directly with my boss, the gallery owner. Once trained, she trusted me fully, and I opened and closed the gallery, worked events, and helped out with the day to day tasks. It was a very rewarding and fulfilling internship, especially as it was my first one. The highlight of my internship was one week in the summer when I assisted my boss in curating the walls for her upcoming exhibit; it was exhausting, but it taught me a lot about working in a fine art gallery.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have worked there more than two days a week, but because it was unpaid and I was living in expensive Manhattan, I also had to work a second paying job, as a hostess.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share with a future intern would be to not take criticism personally, especially if this is your first "real" job. If your boss tells you that you need to re-do something, it is not a reflection on you. Their business is their pride and joy, and they want the best for it, and they want to train you as best as they can.
