Assistant Project Manager

May - August 2019 • San Jose, CA

What I liked

Great company to work for! They were very flexible and great at teaching me what I needed to know on the job. They treat their interns with respect, and gave me plenty of opportunities to learn. I am excited to continue with the company full time after graduation.

What I wish was different

If I had the time, I would have extended my internship to 6-months. This would have allowed me to go further in my experience, but due to time constraints I needed to split the internship over two summers.

Advice

If you are getting a degree in a field that has paid internships, you are on the right track.

Environmental Safety and Health Intern

May - August 2019 • Phoenix, AZ

What I liked

I never met a person who hated their job, I was surrounded by kindness everywhere I looked.

What I wish was different

I worked long hours, so maybe a shorter work day. But the money was good so I didn’t mind much.

Advice

Be confident! Show your strengths and do not show that you’re weak in construction. The union workers eat it up.

Construction Project Management Intern

June - August 2019 • San Jose, CA

What I liked

Rosendin is a great company to intern with. They taught me a little from each part of the company so that I could choose what I was good at and what I wanted to learn. I was able to work with all kinds of different people who were very kind, understanding, and willing to teach me. Rosendin hosts an intern week every year when all the interns from around the country are flown to San Jose, CA to meet the other interns and learn more about the company. I really enjoyed my time at Rosendin and I hope to come back next year.

What I wish was different

Rosendin was a little disorganized in the beginning, I had some trouble figuring out which project I was going to be working on when I first started. Giving more information to the interns about where they are going and what they will be doing would improve the experience.

Advice

I am a civil engineering major and I want to specialize in structural engineering. My internship was in project management, which I decided is not what I want to do for my career. I still had a great time and I learned a lot and gained some valuable experience. My advice is for freshmen and sophomores who haven't yet chosen a specialty. Branch out and do something that might be a little different than what you think you want to do. You may decide that it is not the right fit or you could end up loving it, you never really know until you try. Either way, you will gain some valuable experience and make some new connections.

May - August 2018 • Reno, NV

What I liked

I thought their internship program was very well put together with the idea of allowing their interns to get as much hands on experience as possible.

I wish there was a bit more communication between the company and the interns before the summer in regards to where they would be going and/or what they will be doing.
