Nestled in the San Gabriel Valley is an award-winning school district that is on the move…the Rowland Unified School District. We are located 40 miles east of Los Angeles and are proud to be one of the leading mid-sized school districts in California. With an estimated 13,000 students and 11, TK-6 elementary schools, 3 K-8 Academies, 2 Intermediate schools, 2 High Schools, 1 Continuation High School as well as a Community Day School, we serve the communities of Rowland Heights, Walnut, La Puente, City of Industry and West Covina. Permits allow students from other communities to attend our schools.
In addition, we impact the community with programs for more than 5,000 adults through Rowland Adult and Community Education and Recreation.
Our schools have won numerous state and national awards for academic achievement: ALL RUSD schools have earned 2023 California PBIS awards for establishing positive behavior supports for all students. RUSD schools received the 2022 California Pivotal Practice Schools award for social emotional well-being of students and student engagement.
California Distinguished Schools: John A. Rowland High School (2021, 2019) and Blandford Elementary (2020), Ybarra Academy of Arts and Technology (2020) and Killian Elementary (2020, 2018). Alvarado Intermediate is a California Schools to Watch National Model Middle School. Hurley Elementary is a CABE 2020 Seal of Excellence Award winner, one of only three schools in the state to receive the California Association of Bilingual Education for exemplary bilingual education programs. Santana High School is a 2020 Model Continuation High School. Each year our graduates attend the nation’s top universities and prestigious private colleges and earn more than $3 million in scholarships and grants.
