Royal Credit Union

Audit Intern

January 2019 • Eau Claire, WI

What I liked

I loved the tasks that I’ve completed so far. It’s meaningful work and not just “intern tasks.” I also enjoyed how they challenged me as a thinker and allowed me to take on more tasks that fit my schooling.

What I wish was different

Advice

For those entering the position or considering it: Just do it! It’s great experience. My advice for those who are moving into the role: don’t be afraid to communicate. If you feel like you have too much or too little, just say so. They’re incredibly open and receptive, so there’s nothing to be afraid of.

Mortgage Intern

January - September 2019 • Eau Claire, WI

What I liked

I enjoyed how hands on this internship was. I was actually doing what mortgage lenders at RCU do everyday! It was a real experience of what this job is like.

What I wish was different

I wish that I could have experienced different departments within the home loan department besides only origination. I feel like this would have given me a broader sense of how home loans work.

Advice

To the next mortgage intern or any intern in the future, I suggest knowing and understanding that it is okay to not be an expert right away. I often times felt like I didn't have the right skills for this job and was afraid to ask questions. When, in reality, my mentor needed me to ask questions to know what they needed to teach me. In short, ask questions! This internship is a learning experience for YOU. Get the most out of it by asking questions and fully understanding.
