I was assigned to Saber Astronautics through the US Space Force Supra Coders program. I spent three months on the Space Cockpit team. Space Cockpit is an open source space domain awareness tool. The application utilizes Unity. I worked along a small team virtually that was always willing to answer my questions.
What I wish was different
Supra Coders pushes paired-programming as a way to knowledge share and build. With Saber, I found myself working solo for long periods of time.
Advice
Be prepared to do a lot of research yourself when you run into problems. Since the teams are small, sometimes there's nobody available to tag team with.
