SBC AmeriCorps Partnership for Veterans and People Experiencing Homelessness

Case Worker

What I liked

I had the chance to work with an invisible community, and spark changes that otherwise wouldn't be possible. I helped a client get housing after years of being homeless, and helped countless others find more meaning to their lives.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more time to invest because the work I do requires a lot of commitment. It takes time to build trust with homeless people because many are resistant to the "system."

Advice

Don't listen to all the stigma about people who experience homelessness. Their lives and circumstances are attributed to so much more than just irresponsibility and drug addiction. We can't ignore such a large population.
