Seattle University On-Campus Employment

UCOR 1910 Peer Mentor

August - September 2021 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

I enjoyed making new connections with my other peer mentors, students that I was working with, and faculty member that I was helping. Even though it was a short experience, I learned with the students about the content that made Seattle the way it is and what ways media has contradicted people's perception of the city. Another important aspect of this experience was the time spent for personal professional development that was done outside of the class times.

What I wish was different

I wish this job was longer!

Advice

If you would like to get more involved with the campus, this is one of the best ways to get started by learning more about the Sundborg Center for Community Engagement.

Graduate Admission Ambassador

November 2018 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

I would always appreciate this experience here. People are so nice and always make me feel welcomed and involved. Working tasks are also fun --- conducting tours around our beautiful campus, contacting program advisors (nice people too!), and providing event support like Open House, Grad Welcome, etc. Introducing my school to prospective students is really a great thing --- it makes me feel proud to be a Redhawk and happy to let more people know my school!

Orientation Advisor

April 2018 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

I loved working with new students, families and guests. I loved meeting new friends and working with students I hadn't met before. I loved feeling important and helpful for new students.

What I wish was different

Sometimes it seemed like we wasted time. Our trainings were 12 hours long and sometimes we had nothing to do.

Advice

Some people hear that OAs work long hours and don't get paid enough, but don't let this intimidate you. It is really what you make of it, and it is worth it. It was the best decision I made to do this job.

What I liked

I loved the research itself. I found it very fascinating. I also liked that the research allowed me and my coworkers to get outdoors at least once a week.

What I wish was different

I don't really wish anything had been different.

Advice

I would advise others to get involved in some sort of research in their field. Research has been a great learning experience for me and I ended up really enjoying it.
