SECURA Insurance

Underwriter Training Intern

May 2023 • Neenah, WI

What I liked

I really enjoy the culture of SECURA. Everyone is always happy to help you, its a very welcoming environment where you can grow both in your career and personally. SECURA advocates for a healthy work life balance and for your physical and mental wellbeing. There are my programs and benefits that are included with being an employee such as the gym, cafe, game room, health center, etc..

What I wish was different

I wish I would have done more job shadows to see what other kinds of jobs I could have within the company.

Advice

You own your internship and how ever much you put into it you get out. I highly recommend setting up job shadows with different departments to figure out what you like and also take personality tests with performance development to find your best fit at SECURA.

HR Intern

June - September 2021 • Neenah, WI

What I liked

I enjoyed learning from wonderful people who worked there. I now have experience in auditing, payroll, and basic recruiting experience. I also loved the people I work with. They are all great there.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship could have been longer, because I feel like the internship had been so beneficial, but I just did not want it to end.

Advice

Do not wait for a job, get out and talk to people at career fairs, events, or look at postings. Don't sit around waiting for an internship or job to come for you. Show the job market you care.

Casualty Claims Intern

October 2019 • Neenah, WI

What I liked

SECURA did a fantastic job in setting the framework for the foundational aspects of the internship. They allowed for interns to then build the confidence in themselves as a young professional in order that they ask about taking on additional responsibilities. Additional responsibilities that I enjoyed were documenting quarterly legal percentage numbers, creating pivot charts on workflows, and especially formulating Arbitration responses. The culture that SECURA maintains is unparalleled and they provide tons of experiences such as job shadowing, and attending Company events.

What I wish was different

Nothing. I have absolutely nothing to criticize as the experience was excellent.

Advice

Put your all into this experience, be confident about what you provide, but stay humble in your role. Always seek out continuing education and go for the opportunities you see available to you.

What I liked

I wasn't treated like an intern but as an employee. I was given multiple tasks to do and was asked to work hands on with customers and their accounts. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming and I felt comfortable asking anyone for help or guidance at any point during my internship.

What I wish was different

I wish on my end I would have participated in my company events.

Advice

Don't feel intimidated when starting at your internship and when the employees say they are happy to have you help-they really mean it!
