ShipHawk

Intern

July - September 2018 • Santa Barbara, CA

What I liked

The work was 100% hands on, which was awesome, because I could see directly how my work was impacting the company (a bit scary, too). I also had a lot of autonomy and control over what I was doing - people trusted me despite the fact that I was only an intern, so instead of being micromanaged I could actually be creative. I also liked the flexibility with hours and stuff. I also received more recognition for the work I was doing then I expected.

What I wish was different

It would have been nice to be paid more than a stipend, but honestly I could afford it for the summer (I figured either another part-time job or financial aid would cover me), and the experience was absolutely worth it.

Advice

If you want to intern at ShipHawk, get mentally psyched. It's really fast-paced and you have to learn a lot of stuff on the go. I mean, it's super rewarding but also a bit stressful if you're not used to hustling at work, haha.
