Job Recruiter

June - October 2021 • Eden Prairie, MN

What I liked

I loved the sense of team. We were all working together constantly and helping each other through our issues. This gave a sense of family instead of a cutthroat attitude in the workplace.

What I wish was different

I wish the job was a little less repetitive and also that it was in person.

Advice

Be sure to get a full understanding and ask a lot of questions. If you fall behind while online, it's a lot harder to catch up.

Creative Operations Intern

March - July 2019 • Redwood City, CA

What I liked

Awesome company culture and creative department. They treat everyone like family here and with everyone so supportive you'll be bound to expand and grow your career here. Their unlimited DTO policy was great so were the discount codes to the online store, and occasional complimentary lunches. Depending on your manager you may have the opportunity to work from home. In the creative department, there are a lot of full time employees who started out as interns AND most have come from Cal Poly! Shutterfly's Internship program gave students and new grads the chance to network, learn, and develop their career interests.

What I wish was different

Being one of the first creative interns was great but I wished I joined when the rest of the creative interns arrived.

Advice

Have an open communication with your manager about what they expect from you, your work schedule, and if you would like to be converted full-time a couple months before your internship ends. Make sure to network with people outside of your department to learn about the different functions of the company. And lastly, do not feel afraid to speak up, just because you're new does not mean you don't have a say in the company.

Learning & Development Intern

June 2019 • Redwood City, CA

What I liked

I like how friendly everyone is here, I like that the projects that I'm working on are essential to the initiatives of my department. I'm treated like a real team member and am expected and encouraged to ask questions and contribute to the larger strategy.

What I wish was different

I wish there was a stronger interest/culture in learning and professional development throughout all levels of the organization. While we have the resources and offer a wide variety of leadership development opportunities that are in-house instructor led, there is a challenge in getting people to prioritize learning as part of their job. This is a little disappointing, but it makes for a great challenge to solve!

Advice

Continue to live and practice the company's values in daily interactions. Encourage fellow interns to help build a strong organizational and intern culture. As most interns work in different departments, it can be challenging to connect with one another. Continue to provide opportunities for interns to connect and learn from one another to enrich the intern experience.
