Software Engineering Intern

June - July 2019 • Alexandria, VA

What I liked

I learned a lot about software development. Over the course of 8 weeks we went from designing a web application to implementing it and creating a prototype site. The interns got experience in both frontend and backend development. The company also put a lot of effort in organizing social events and making sure the interns were enjoying themselves.

What I wish was different

Learning how to use the React framework and implementing it was very challenging for me. I wish I had spent more time before the internship learning how to use React, as well as Javascript and Typescript.

Advice

If you get an internship, try to learn the technology that you will be using before the internship begins, so that you are most productive at the internship.

Full-Stack Engineering Intern

June - August 2019 • Alexandria, VA

What I liked

Really friendly work environment! Really good opportunity to learn a lot and use knowledge for practical applications.

What I wish was different

At times it feels like we could have had a little bit more guidance, but having some parts of our project being intern led definitely also helped us develop planning skills and teamwork.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions! You definitely have the chance to learn a lot, and running into some obstacles is natural when learning new tools. A*king questions is the best way to get around them.
