I enjoyed collaborating with people around the world. With the end goal of connecting the globe and spreading peace, it was a great professional experience.
What I wish was different
I did not actually do much researching. I was used as more of an IT intern.
Advice
Put all of your effort into your work. Make sure that it is done well and quickly. There are many opportunities to create relations with people all of the world through Sister Cities.

Digital Marketing Intern

What I liked
It was a smaller office in the heart of Washington, D.C., which meant that you were able to get to know everyone that you were working with across departments. I enjoyed getting one-on-one attention from my boss, as we worked closely in the marketing department, and I was mostly "her" intern. The hours were flexible, and I worked 9-5 only Monday through Thursday which allowed me to work another job. The CEO was very approachable and kind, and was genuinely concerned for my experience in the office and conscientious of my future career goals.
What I wish was different
It was not paid, and there was not a ton of discussion about return offers, although it was a non-profit so the compensation was less important than the goal - achieving peace through people by way of diplomacy.
Advice
Don't be afraid to ask questions. In a setting where there are only a few interns, and all the focus is on you, it can be intimidating to appear like you don't know what you're doing. However, everyone is always ready to help- that's the point of the internship. Also, get a metro card that auto-refills when your balance is low. Getting stuck at McPherson square station during rush hour is not ideal!
