Smartypants was founded by director Joshua Seftel (War, Inc., Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, This American Life). Recent Smartypants original productions include The Home Team (SXSW 2014), The Many Sad Fates of Mr. Toledano (Tribeca 2015), and The Secret Life of Muslims (SXSW 2017). Smartypants has also garnered many awards and nominations including Emmys, Peabodys, James Beard Awards, and Webbys.
