Hands-on experience working with clients, good mentorship under a paralegal, flexible hours, important work, and good community of other interns.
What I wish was different
Not paid, demanding/taxing physically and emotionally, not a great structure of leadership within SJC, little/no communication with attorneys, not a structured internship program.
Advice
You will be able to do more interesting work if you are able to speak another language, particularly Spanish or an indigenous language like Mam.

Legal Research Intern
June - August 2018 • Oakland, CA
What I liked
The experience was very inspiring and helped with practical, day to day professionalism.
What I wish was different
I wish I had proficiency in another language so that I could help out with a wider variety of subject matters.
Advice
Work hard, talk to your co-workers and find a way to decompress after work. The subject material can be hard to process, even if you have been involved in similar fields for a long period of time.
