St. Louis Community Foundation

Communications Intern

January - May 2023 • Clayton, MO

What I liked

I really enjoyed the hands-on nature of this internship. There was so much to learn on a daily basis and I was given the opportunity to work on many projects throughout the internship. The internship with this organization is very rewarding because you're working in a nonprofit sector and are afforded many opportunities to impact the community. I definitely recommend interning with the St. Louis Community Foundation if you want to enhance your skills in digital marketing and want to learn more about a nonprofit organization.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have had more hours in this internship. I understand that my time had to be constrained to working minimal hours because of the internship guidelines, but this hurt me in the long run because it is very easy to lose track of your work when you only work a couple of days. I think future interns can benefit from more hours in this role.

Advice

I would say be open minded and ready to absorb all that you can from this experience. You definitely get the chance to get your hands dirty by engaging with nonprofit organizations and creating media content. The internship is fast paced and you're tasked with assignments like blog writing and interviewing. Ask plenty of questions and keep a portfolio of all the media you create. There'll be a lot of them.
