Finance intern

June - August 2018 • Kalama, WA

What I liked

I liked working with the same people everyday. They were all very welcoming and would make conversation with me to help make me feel like part of the group.

What I wish was different

I wish they had more for me to do. I found myself finishing their projects quite quickly, but still effectively. It wasn't tell the end of the summer where I was able to work with the Marketing Department and was actually being assigned tasks that kept me busy.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions. Whether it's about the task they assigned you to, an area of expertise you'd like to learn, or if it's a basic question to get to know them. Asking questions and having conversations will help you build your network and make you stand out.

Financial Analyst Intern

June - August 2018 • Kalama, WA

What I liked

I liked that everyone was super inviting and paid no attention to the age gap. No pressure was put on me and they gave me the same respect they would to their other coworkers.

What I wish was different

I wish they had given me more tasks to do. I exceeded their expectations they had for me over the summer and ended up getting to work with accounting and marketing as well to fill my time while at work.

Advice

Don’t go into an internship thinking you’re the underdog. Yes, you may be of lower rank in job title and you may be younger, but you’re learning how to one day do their job whether it’s at the same company or a different one. You’re expanding your learning and experience by seeking out opportunities and that’s something a lot of employers respect.
