Stoke Travel

Marketing Intern

May - August 2019 • Barcelona, Barcelona Province

What I liked

It was so unique and interesting to be working in a city with people from all over the world. My coworkers were from places such as Australia, London, and Italy, and it was fun to get to work with people from so many different backgrounds. My company focused on events in Spain, however I dealt with customers from all over the world, which is something that I feel like is very special. I also enjoyed working onsite at our events, such as Running with the Bulls. This experience was incredible, and something I will never forget. I knew an opportunity like this to work at Stoke Travel is not something that comes around often, and I am so happy I got to experience it this summer.

What I wish was different

Working for no pay was very difficult, because we worked 5 days a week 10am-5pm, and sometimes on weekends when working the events. I also wished I got more training, because I felt like we were really thrown into the job with not a lot of teaching and more of just my coworkers expecting me to know how to do everything correctly. My company is very fast paced and summer is their peak season, so sometimes things could get very stressful!

Advice

I would say if you have an experience like this to work internationally with people from all over the world, you definitely need to take it! I gained so much insight this summer from collaborating with people from different cultures and backgrounds, and it really helps you grow as a person when doing so. Working in another country can get tough, but it will give you experience and skills that you can use for the rest of your life!

Media Team Intern

March - June 2018 • Barcelona, Barcelona Province

What I liked

I loved how young yet efficient the company was. There was a lot of room to run with your own ideas but they still provided us with guidance when needed. I was exposed to a lot more than just the behind the scenes side of media. I was exposed to many different departments and learned a lot about how all of these departments work together.

What I wish was different

The only thing I wish that could have been different was my dates. I wish I could have stayed the entire summer to learn more from them.

Advice

For me, I was terrified to take on an internship in a new country where I knew little of the language. I would tell anyone else who is thinking about taking on an opportunity like this to just do it. Put all of your doubts aside and trust your abilities and what you have learned and what you are capable of.
