SU - Johnson Center for Civic Engagement

About SU - Johnson Center for Civic Engagement

The Johnson Center for Civic Engagement (JCCE) primarily works to link students with local service opportunities that closely align with their personal interests. Connecting and coordinating between students and community partners allows partners to get help completing projects and meeting their needs, while also providing an enriching experience for students and increasing their civic competency. Our community partners include the Regional Engagement Center (R.E.C.), Greater Susquehanna Valley United Way (GSVUW), Community Action Agency (CAA), Community Aid, All Saints' Episcopal Church, and Ashburn's Animals, just to name a few-- there are hundreds more! In addition to collaborating with partners around campus, we also promote opportunities and encourage students to volunteer ON-campus. The Johnson Center annually hosts signature events on campus including, SPLASH, SU GIVE, Giving Tree, Hunger Banquet, SU SERVE, Poverty Simulation, Sowing Change (In partnership with Bucknell) and several Red Cross Blood Drives. The Johnson Center also works closely with the Campus Garden and the office of Sustainability. Our ultimate goal is to shift campus towards a service-oriented culture and get as many students as possible mindful about service, and actively involved in our community!

Voting Engagement Intern

“I loved getting to work with my community here on SU and make a difference in democratic efforts on campus. I love the staff at the Johnson Center, and how much they care about our Susquehanna Community. I had many, many positive experiences while tabling to spread the voting effort as well, and they'll stick with me for a while to come.”
